Pumpkin spice lattes are all the rage and the Dallas Cowboys are on television—this can only mean that fall is here. While winters in Texas are usually pretty mild, there are a few home maintenance tasks that need doing this time of year to prepare for the upcoming season. Here are a few to consider.
Indoor Maintenance Tasks
Making sure the inside of your home is ready for the winter starts by doing a fall furnace check. Change out any air filters, as necessary. Ensure all connections to your unit are secure. We even advise having a professional come out and do a complete tune up on your system. This will extend the life of the furnace and help ensure it is working to its full potential.
If you have a fireplace, it is also advised that you check it for any cracks or damage before lighting your first seasonal fire. Clean any debris or soot buildup from inside the flue—either by yourself or by having a professional chimney sweep come out.
Outdoor Maintenance Tasks
Here in Texas, we don’t have nearly as many outdoor fall maintenance tasks to consider. However, there are still a few things that need doing. Check your guttering system for any leaves or debris that need clearing. This will keep the flow going and help prevent damage during any storms we see during the winter.
You will also want to prepare your landscaping and outdoor furniture for the change in season. Remove any annual plants that are on the end of their cycles. Trim any excess tree branches away fro m your home. Keep a stockpile of blankets or tarps on hand for covering up foliage during sudden cold snaps. Put away patio furniture, garden hoses, and other outdoor accessories for the season.
It is also important to make sure you have proper home insurance coverage. Contact us at Strack Insurance Services today.
